Recently I wanted to make some little gifts for some friends I volunteer with. Since there were 12 of them, I couldn’t make it too fancy or complicated, but I wanted it to be thoughtful and useful. I came up with these little survival kits in jars.
Many of the ingredients (like tissue packs) can be found at a dollar store. Others I found relatively inexpensively at my local Wal-Mart. I didn’t have any extra jars on hand, so I got those there as well. Here’s what I put in:
Tissue packs, wet wipes, hand sanitizer, breath mints, cough drops, bandages, post-its, a pen, and a little candy bar. I also included a nail file for the ladies.
I created the labels in Photoshop Elements. I kept it as a really simple design since I wanted to print onto scrapbook paper. I used pink polka dot paper for the ladies and orange for the guys, just so I could keep them straight. I attached these little tags using hemp cord.
Well, what do you think? These are easy, inexpensive, and quick. Perfect for last-minute gifts, especially for those you’re not sure what they’d really like. I mean, everyone can use these survival kit supplies during their day.

Useful information and facts! I have already been looking for something similar to this for a while now. Cheers!
I love this idea. If you want to make the project even less expensive, you can often find quart sized mason jars at thrift stores for $0.25 or $0.50 a piece. Run them through the dishwasher and they’re as good as new!
Very cool idea!
LOVE this idea (especially the Thrift Store jar version where you can get pretty good sized and unique jars for no more than a buck.
As a so called working girl (no, not that kind, just the office type), I’d love all the above in a quick, convenient place. Other things I’ve often wanted quickly – gum, a mini deodorant, mouthwash.
Fun idea! Might have to make some of these for my co-workers.
Oh! Those are good additions!
